It seems like the last week has been a
real grind for us all. Ill health, shorter days, and too many things to do is pushing a lot of us into overwhelm.
Although it may feel like the worst possible time of the year to do it, consider exercising to be your best weapon against ill health, fatigue or depression for us humans and against ageing and changing mobility for your fur baby!
For ourselves the benefits of short bursts of exercise outside of our normal temperature comfort zone improve our health and energy levels. If we are doing it faster than our usual pace it is improving our cardio-vascular fitness as well.
If it seems too cold or wet, then
its time to don waterproofs and take a quick trip to the closest park. Smells are enhanced after the rain, which will provide a kaleidoscope or enrichment for your furry friend, so even a short trip will help increase their happiness and take away some of the stress for you. .
For your pets, sometimes learning how much exercise they are able to do comfortably is the trick we
need to practice. To keep up the enjoyment for them you want to empower your dog to act on as many of their decisions as possible. As a pet parent your goal is to set them up for success and be ready to help if necessary, rather than wrapping them in bubble wrap and reducing their opportunity to strengthen the stabilising muscles they need for everyday living.
If your regular walk time has
become too dark, consider taking a light or wearing a headtorch so your dog can see where they are walking.
